What complex issues are showing up for consideration in this month of Virgo seasonal shifts? Having cruised through a summer which has already giving us so much new energy to absorb, we are now at cross-roads where we get serious about the conclusions of the year. One of the primary themes of 2025 has been a tighter economy and making it work for our families. Virgo is the sign of analysis, reducing waste, and economizing where we can. Fall eclipse season this year gives us two New Moons in Virgo.
The operating energies for September are the shifting of the outer planets, Saturn, and Neptune, retreating into Pisces, and reviewing the swirling waters of the issues and topics of our lives that we were wrestling with last spring. However, we also have the beneficial and generous duo, Venus and Jupiter rising before the Sun, promising that we can get the most out of these end-of-summer days by joining with others, creating alliances, and coordinating community resources to resolve complex issues, like crisis transportation on island roads, or food security and housing for those in need. Virgo is the sign of helping hands. Jupiter and Venus are in family and community-oriented sign of Cancer.
The New Moon chart shown here, emphasizes the lower half of the wheel, giving attention to our most personal and family arenas of life.
New Moon in Virgo
Pluto, planet of transformation and power is in the arena of groups and organizations. It is in an aspect of positive exchange with Uranus, that provides creative new inventions, new ways of doing things that can revolutionize the way we live. Half-way between them is Saturn with Neptune at the 0 Aries point, binging emphasis to world issues that affect us all.
In the first week of September, the planetary changes include Mercury entering Virgo, its most influential domain. Also, Neptune, and then Uranus turn retrograde for the next few months. This means that no further new business will come up for these two, but a return to former discussions. Over this time, Uranus and Pluto will hold their positive trine exchange. The end of the first week has a challenging square from Mars to Jupiter, where we need to hold back and plan ways to manage expansion and growth with respect to perhaps limited resources.
Full Moon in Pisces
The Lunar Eclipse on September 7 is at 15 Pisces, and it is trine to Jupiter in Cancer, increasing the influence of water during this Full Moon time. Also, Saturn is now retrograde in the last degree of Pisces, and Neptune, the god of oceans is conjunct and pinpointed between Uranus and Pluto. Disruptions, flooding, landslides, and hurricanes could be potentially disastrous for the middle of September. A similar arrangement of planets had formed last year with Hurricane Hellene that tore up the land into North Caroline from the panhandle of Florida. Mercury in Virgo reminds us to be prepared for anything. Jupiter in Cancer reminds us to share and protect the needy.
By the 18th, Mercury takes an active role in events, as it opposes Saturn and Neptune, and then enters Libra, triggering the Air signs in a grand trine with Uranus and Pluto. A grand trine is the joining of three points sharing the same element. Air is relative to thinking and allows things to arise like, new ideas, agreements, and resolutions. There is harmony as the air element is Sanquin, as in agreeable, likeable, and extra friendly.
Venus, ruler of Libra enters Virgo, where she gets mutual reception with Mercury, being in each other’s signs. They can benefit us with their social abilities, bringing agreement and collaboration in their cross talk. Venus is challenged by squaring Uranus, wanting some themes to be more cordial and less volatile. She also asks for compromise from Pluto, whose demands can be blunt and crude. Similarly, Saturn, now in Pisces, Venus’ exaltation sign, can be less autocratic in its judgements of things in this turning point of the year.
New Moon in Virgo
The Solar Eclipse is at 29 degrees Virgo, finalizing the themes of adjustment and compromise as the Sun turns toward the southern hemisphere. The Fall Equinox is wrapped up in this Solar event, leaving its last oppositions to Saturn at 29 Pisces, and Neptune at 0 Aries. World events may be historical in the coming weeks as we haven’t seen these aspects before in modern times.
Eclipses are turning points in our lives. This is a partial eclipse that will be seen in very southern New Zealand and Antarctica across the South Pole. Such patterns are out of view, but this one lasting two minutes will have an influence on world events for nearly 2 years. Eclipses repeat about every 19 years. This eclipse series began July 19, 1917. Events during these next weeks will likely have a feeling of fate about them.
The dynamic Kite formation appears again with the Sun and Moon as the tail point, giving attention to resolving conflicts, which seem to be more about egos than true differences. The ease of this type of aspect picture contains the disruptive internal forces. This can give rise to brilliant resolutions of old and systemic problems when we set aside old habits of doing the same thing in answer to the problems.
Mars, planet of war and aggression enters its own sign Scorpio, within hours of the New Moon. A planet that has strength of its own domain is a better host to its guests. Mars in its water sign is less difficult to deal with as long as one is honest.
One more power aspect is created on the 24th, as Mars squares Pluto and then, makes the adjustment aspect to Saturn and Neptune. This forms a small learning triangle suggesting that if we focus on what is true rather than inferred, minor changes could make big differences. The emotional energy is more exaggerated when the Moon comes into Scorpio. Yet, before it leaves this sign, Moon will make a trine to Jupiter in Cancer, and Venus in Virgo will be in sextile to Jupiter, accelerating the feelings of smoothing, calming, and relaxing tensions. The month will close with positive vibes.
